Our sound detective book
Ava takes her yellow question book to the dentist. Make a little sound record of your own using everyday noises at home, then leave space for a question your child would like to ask.
Suggested for ages 3–6 with a grown-up · about ten minutes · paper and pencils. Print the sheet below, or copy the prompts onto plain paper. In your browser’s print options, turn off headers and footers.
Try it together
- Pause together and notice a familiar sound: water running, a door closing or someone walking. No recording or loud noise is needed.
- Draw what makes the sound. Your child can invent a word for it, and a grown-up can write that word beside the picture.
- Draw or dictate a question about a sound they are curious about. If it concerns a dental visit, keep it to ask the dental team.
