BAD DREAMS & IMAGINATION · FREE PRINTABLE

A cloud of make-believe

At a calm moment, make up a cloud that could only exist in a story. This activity pairs with The Not So Scary Nightmare, but children do not need to describe a frightening dream to take part.

Suggested for ages 3–6 with a grown-up · about ten minutes · paper and pencils. Print the sheet below, or copy the prompts onto plain paper. In your browser’s print options, turn off headers and footers.

Try it together

  1. Imagine a funny or friendly cloud: perhaps a bunny with enormous ears or a boat with spotty sails. Let your child choose.
  2. Draw something the cloud might do in a made-up story. A grown-up can write down the child’s words.
  3. Finish with a drawing of something familiar: a favourite toy, a room or a person they enjoy being with.

The story follows a little girl waking from a strange dream and finding Dad and her bunny nearby. Keep the drawing optional and playful; it is fine to talk about the invented cloud instead of dreams.
